Several former and current EY employees have relinquished their chartered accountancy licenses. This results from the online directory of the Chamber of Auditors. In this way, they avoid possible penalties from the supervisory authority due to any errors in Wirecard's final audits. These include past and current managers reviewing Wirecard's balance sheets and have confirmed the annual financial statements with their signature. While the former auditors are subject to possible sanctions by the auditor supervisory body at the Federal Office of Economics with the return of their approval and export control (APAS) bypass, since these only against auditors with active Approval may take precedence, this has no impact on EY itself. The APAS may continue to impose penalties on EY, including a business ban, a Withdrawal of inspectors and fines. From our point of view, the return of the approvals indicates an admission of guilt on the part of the examiners.
