Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ:SMCI) stock is surprisingly down more than 4% today, even after the company announced a new addition to its SuperCluster artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure for the Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) Omniverse platform. The SuperCluster will now include Supermicro’s Nvidia OVX system, ehanced with generative AI workflows, to improve workload scalability. “Supermicro has led the industry in developing GPU-optimized products, traditionally for 3D graphics and application acceleration, and now for AI,” said Charles Liang, president and Chief Executive of Supermicro. “With the rise of AI, enterprises are seeking computing infrastructure that combines all these capabilities into a single package…The system helps deliver high performance across the Omniverse platform, including generative AI integrations. By developing this SuperCluster for Omniverse, we’re not just offering a product; we’re providing a gateway to the future of application development and innovation.” Many professionals rely on the processing-intensive 3D workflows found in Supermicro’s SuperCluster. Given the growing use cases of generative AI in a workplace context, the new addition to the SuperCluster may notably enhance Nvidia’s Omniverse. The SuperCluster provides an infrastructure solution for everyone, from artists to engineers, providing easy access to high levels of GPU processing. With 400Gb/s and support for Nvidia’s Spectrum-X Ethernet, the supercluster allows companies to access custom large language models connected to a large GPU memory pool. SMCI Stock Experiences Minor Cool Down in Strong Year While today’s news hasn’t managed to reverse SMCI’s recent cold streak, the stock is still well in the green for the year. Indeed, SMCU stock is up 135% in 2024, as one of the big winners of this year’s AI craze. Both Supermicro and Nvidia have experienced a minor sell off over the past month amid speculation that other big tech companies will enter the chipmaking game. That said, investors generally still view SMCI and NVDA stock positively. Just yesterday both stocks surged after AMD (NASDAQ:AMD) and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) reported strong earnings growth, largely citing strong data center revenue growth, which itself is a testament to its AI business. On the date of publication, Shrey Dua held LONG positions in NVDA. The opinions expressed in this article are those of the writer, subject to the InvestorPlace.com Publishing Guidelines. hier mal was positives -- Wall-Street-Analyst prognostiziert Ende der Talfahrt der Tech-Aktien: „Ein Großteil der Verkaufswelle könnte bereits hinter uns liegen“ Wall Street Analyst Predicts End To Tech Rout: 'Much Of The Selloff May Be In The Rearview Mirror'What initially seemed like a cause for celebration after Jerome Powell hinted that a September interest rate cut “could be on the table” quickly turned into another selloff for tech stocks the day after the July Federal Open Market Committee meeting. Investors reevaluated their positions in tech giants in light of disappointing economic data released Thursday and the latest earnings reports, shifting toward a more risk-averse approach. The Nasdaq 100, as tracked by the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ:QQQ), tumbled 2.7% after a 3% rally on Wednesday. The Magnificent Seven tech stocks, monitored through the Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF (NASDAQ:MAGS), declined by 1.9%. Chipmakers faced another significant blow, with the iShares Semiconductor ETF (NYSE:SOXX) plummeting over 7%, wiping out the gains made on Wednesday. Some investors, relying on fundamentals, see potential entry opportunities during this selloff. Ed Yardeni’s Insights On Tech Stock Prospects Veteran Wall Street investor Ed Yardeni, chief investment strategist and president at Yardeni Research, said that despite investor disappointment in Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Microsoft Corp. (NYSE:MSFT) earnings, there were no indications that artificial intelligence would fail to live up to expectations. According to Yardeni, their capital spending plans—higher than anticipated—indicate a strong commitment to developing infrastructure to support AI. “If that's the case, much of the selloff may be in the rearview mirror,” Yardeni wrote. Despite the selloff, the MegaCap-8 stocks (excluding Tesla) are still enjoying “a banner year:” Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA): up 122% year-to-date through 1:30 p.m. ET Thursday. Meta: up 41% Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX): up 29% Alphabet: up 22.5% Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN): up 21.5% Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL): up 16.6% Microsoft Corp.: up 11.2% Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA): down 12% Some stocks within this group still offer attractive valuations, according to Yardeni. For instance, he said Nvidia’s forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 32.1 is considered “extremely low” relative to its expected forward earnings growth of 60.9%. Similarly, Meta and Netflix are not fully recognized for their strong earnings growth, which almost matches their respective forward P/E ratios, he said. “Conversely, some forward multiples are harder to justify,” Yardeni said. Tesla’s forward P/E of nearly 80, with forward earnings growth of less than 6%, suggests that investors are betting heavily on the company’s potential to deliver autonomous vehicles and an electric semi-trailer truck. Both Apple and Microsoft’s forward multiples appear somewhat high, with a lot riding on Apple’s ability to launch its AI offering, Apple Intelligence, and Microsoft’s expectation that its significant quarterly investment in AI infrastructure will yield returns. Here’s a fundamental snapshot of the MegaCap-8 stocks in terms of their forward multiples and expected earnings growth: Tesla: 79.0 forward P/E, 5.8% forward earnings growth Amazon: 34.2 forward P/E, 36.9% forward earnings growth Nvidia: 32.1 forward P/E, 60.9% forward earnings growth Microsoft: 31.4 forward P/E, 13% forward earnings growth Apple: 30.3 forward P/E, 10.4% forward earnings growth Netflix: 29.1 forward P/E, 32.4% forward earnings growth Meta: 21.1 forward P/E, 22% forward earnings growth Alphabet: 20.6 forward P/E, 20.1% forward earnings growth
