Update on the fire in Yellowknife (and NWT): - There was a brief reprieve from the fires last couple of days with cooler weather and some rain. This bought some valuable time. - It is expected that the fires will get more active again with warmer drier weather returning and an increase in wind. - Progress is continuing to advance on all of the fire breaks and fire suppression efforts. - Residents are being advised that it will be weeks before we are able to return. - Important to recognize all of the support people that are involved right now including telecommunications (NWTel) that has been working tirelessly to maintain necessary communication lines, people preparing food and provisions, logistics support (Det’on Cho Logistics), Government, and many others. Everyone is doing what they can. Stay safe everyone and look after one another. We will have a lot of work to do once we return for recovery efforts.
