Dennis Schulz auf LinkedIn: It was a great honor to meet the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, in Tokyo today. Together with Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ken Saito, the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, and selected senior business executives from Japan and Europe, we discussed hydrogen as a top priority for both regions. As early visionaries, Japan has been a strong supporter of hydrogen for decades. It was no coincidence that in 2017, Japan was the first country in the world to launch a national hydrogen strategy - an example many countries would follow. Today, Japan and the EU are among the most ambitious leaders in clean hydrogen. For a global hydrogen economy to become reality, and for hydrogen to become a globally traded commodity, both Japan and the EU acknowledge that a level playing field with a common set of fair rules and regulations is an essential precondition. In her address on the occasion of today’s “Japan-EU Hydrogen High-Level Business Forum”, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, emphasised that it was important to bring key decision makers of both sides together at this point. Hydrogen technologies are ready - now it’s about final investment decisions (FIDs) by the private sector along unwavering public commitment and incentives. On a more personal note, the forum was marked by an inspiring “rolling up your sleeves” mentality, a joint desire to get stuff done, and an atmosphere of openness for partnership and collaboration. An important next step on our journey! Further Japanese representatives were: Hiroshi Ide (IHI Corporation), Hiroshi Majima (Iwatani Corporation), Hisahide Okuda (JERA Co., Inc.), Akihiro Nikkaku (Toray Industries, Inc.), Katsuhiko Kato (Mizuho), Takeshi Kunibe (Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation – SMBC Group), Yoshifumi Murase (Commissioner of Agency for Natural Resources and Energy) Further European representatives were: Manfred Schuckert (Daimler Truck AG), Markus Exenberger (H2Global Foundation), Helle Kristoffersen (TotalEnergies), Andreas Lehmann (Hydrogenious LOHC), Jean-Eric Paquet (Ambassador of EU to Japan)
