The joint venture between the Tanzanian government and Perseus Mining, through the Sotta company, will see an investment of $500 million, with an expected operational lifespan extending from 10 to 15 years. The government will increase its free-carried interest in the project from 16% to 20%, enhancing its stake in the mine’s revenues. Compensation efforts for those affected by the project have already commenced, with over 20 billion shillings disbursed and 232 houses expected to be completed by May 2025 as part of the resettlement plan.
