ADAS w/o Lidar?
Comparing Lidar to front facing 4D radar
Lidar has better much better horizontal angular resolution & full 360 deg coverage, but shorter range
1 Frontal + 4 side radars can achieve 360 deg coverage
In 2022, 1/3 of BYD cars had 3R config
5R config more common now w/ N7, D9, N8, Han, Seal & Tang
Based on N7 presentation, BYD believes HW NOA can be achieved w/ 5 MMWs, high resolution cameras, USS & 80 to 100 TOPS
Remains to be seen if City NOA can be achieved w/o Lidar & its high angular resolution for those busy city streets. Altho, future innovation in radar tech & lower cost may allow so
1 frontal 4D + 4 side radar cost can be lowered to $300 by next yr, add in $600 for computation platform & ADAS chip, $300 for cameras & USS -> $1200 or 8500 RMB needed for HW NOA at least
Adding in 1 Lidars + using Nvidia Orin-X ADAS chip & more power computation platform would probably raising ADAS package cost to 20k RMB
My guess is 170-250k RMB cars can at most support HW NOA

Prominent and global renowned car designers that have joined Chinese automakers over the past decade+ (I'm sure there are more):
Klaus Zyciora: global head of design at Chang'an (formerly design chief at Volkswagen Group)
Stefan Sielaff: EVP of design of Geely Auto (former design chief at Bentley)
Wolfgang Egger: global head of design at BYD (former design chief at Audi)
The late Peter Horbury: EVP of design of Geely Auto (former design chief at Volvo Cars), later succeeded by Sielaff.
It's safe to say Geely and BYD would not be where they are right now without Horbury and Egger purely from a design and styling perception point of view.
