Hopes for a better US-China relationship lie with the American people, Chinese President Xi Jinping said as he met “old friend” Bill Gates in Beijing on Friday. “I always believe that the foundation of China-US relations lies in the people. I place my hopes on the American people,” Xi told the Microsoft co-founder and billionaire philanthropist, according to state broadcaster CCTV. Gates was the first “American friend” he had met this year, Xi said, as he welcomed him to the Diaoyutai State Guest House. He also called Gates “an old friend” – a diplomatic term reserved for foreign entities who contribute to China’s development, are concerned about Chinese interests and understand Chinese problems.

Chinas schrittweise Internationalisierung seiner Währung geht am Montag in die nächste Runde, wenn etwa zwei Dutzend chinesische Unternehmen den Handel in ihrer Heimatwährung an der Börse von Hongkong aufnehmen. Hongkonger Aktien wie Alibaba und Tencent gehören zu den 24 Titeln, die ab Montag im Rahmen des Dual Counter Model an der Hongkonger Börse (HKEX) sowohl in Yuan als auch in Hongkong-Dollar notiert und gehandelt werden.

Mark Mobius, a guru of emerging market investment, opined that global investors should not ignore China or worry too much about tightening regulations in China, since most Chinese companies can operate in a free business environment, Reuters reported. In spite of U.S- China tensions and the crackdown on big tech firms including BABA and TENCENT , there are incredible number of corporates in China which are free to do their businesses, said Mobius. The guru said the biggest misconception by U.S. investors is a lack of understanding of the variety within China, and people's mindset was not one direction only. He thought it would be big mistake to ignore China. He disclosed that the regions in which he holds most investments now are South Korea and India.
