American Manganese Inc (CVE:AMY) (OTCQB:AMYZF) CEO Larry Reaugh tells Proactive it was important for the group to begin trading its shares on the OTCQB Venture Market to better connect with US investors. „To start, Nickel is also quite expensive and there isn't enough of it laying around to satisfy the current demand from the EV industry. The other issue with Nickel is the "Particle Size" Which we have heard Larry mention a lot lately. The capacity retention and thermal property of the cathodes deteriorate as their discharge capacity increases when higher nickel concentrations are used. "Besides chemistry, the electrochemical performance of cathode materials also depends on their particle properties, such as MORPHOLOGY and microstructure (size and shape of primary particles and their alignment within the secondary particle), size distribution, tap density, specific surface area, and surface characteristics Thus, tailored particle engineering of layered cathode materials during synthesis allows for an achievable optimum energy output while still addressing cycle life and thermal stability aspects via particle refinement strategies" In other words, The nickel particles need to be nano-sized to avoid "micro-cracking" of the particles which leads to rapid degradation of the cathode and eventually the life of the battery cell itself. "Nanosized particles have major advantages. In addition, nanosized particles can accommodate the volume change during cycling while microcracking occurs during cycling, which nucleate preferentially at the grain boundaries. Therefore, single crystallized particles, which can be synthesized only at the nanoscale, minimize the risk of microcracking responsible for a shortage of the life cycle in the materials" To put this all quite simply, Tesla needs Nano-sized nickel precursor materials for improved safety and longevity of the battery. This is why AMY and Larry keep telling us that they are on their way to becoming a cathode precursor material supplier while everyone else is just focused on being a Lithium ion battery recycler. This is why AMY acquired the specialized cathode reactor, capable of producing modern cathode precursor materials such as lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt oxide (NMC) and lithium-nickel-cobalt-aluminum oxide (NCA) This is why the cathode precursor materials had to be analyzed with scanning electron microscopy to verify the spherical MORPHOLOGY, because it was requested by a tier-one battery manufacturer. Hmmmm, I wonder who it could be??? The writing is on the wall folks, Larry has given us every possible hint he can without breaching non disclosure agreements. I can hear it in Larry's voice. He has a new found swagger in it every since they fired up that new cathode reactor and got the results back that they were hoping for.
